XDnet.co.uk The new name of Dansgalaxy Hosting.

Posted by Dan on Apr 26, 2008 in General stuff, Projects

Okay so i brought a new domain about a week ago, XDnet.co.uk.

So the name “Dansgalaxy” has been bugging me a little for a while name as its a bit too personal for business, which is why Dansgalaxy is now my Personal domain and XDnet.co.uk will take over as the main business one.

Because of the new domain its also given me a boost to get the hosting site finished, I have my plans set up and im working on the order system and customising the online help.

Hopefully once im done (yes i am… im making my own billing system – I just like to make it myself :) ) it *should* do the usual collect info, direct to payment (paypal), direct back on sucessful payment automatically set up the account with the users details (which of course were checked using Ajax when they enterded them initially to check that the username wasnt taken etc :) they get a nice looking welcome email. telling them its all set up and welcome to “Personal UK Web Hosting From XDnet.co.uk” and how to contact support etc if there are any issues.

And of course the whole user area will be created with the account so they can view invoices etc…

… I can see this having to wait a little while as i have so much on at the moment.

So thats one of the things im focusing on at the moment… as well as only having 2 weeks left of school … but thats not as important of couse. :-) [Note: this is sarcasum, i do take my education seriously, no matter what people think ;) ]

Well im signing off on this post.

Bye X

Meet the Spartans – Film Review

Posted by Dan on Apr 10, 2008 in Reviews

Background:

I produce a local radio station show with some friends and we reviewed a film this is what i thought of it…

On Monday we saw ‘Meet The Spartans’ at Cineworld.

Synopsis from website:

After successfully skewering Hollywood’s scariest movie   (as two of the writers on “Scary Movie”), romantic comedy franchises (“Date Movie”), and Hollywood blockbusters (“Epic Movie”), writers/directors/producers Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer now set their sights on “300.”

The heroic Leonidas, armed with nothing but leather underwear and a cape, leads a ragtag group of 13 – count ‘em, 13 – Spartans to defend their homeland against the invading Persians (whose ranks include Ghost Rider, Rocky Balboa, the Transformers, and a hunchbacked Paris Hilton).

That’s the synopsis from the official website, what they fail to point out that all the other films they have made, are almost identical to this one – Aiming for cheaper laughs then a comic who is claiming their pension. This film is obviously supposed to be a “parody” of the film 300. Time wise this is a short film, of just over an hour, of course the length of the film does not show how good it is, as long as its content is good. But I do not think this is the case with ‘Meet the Spartans’.

So who’s in it? The cast include: Sean Maguire, Carmen Electra, Ken Davitian, Kevin Sorbo, Diedrich Bader.

Meet the Spartans is simply a badly shaken cocktail of recent trivia, movies, celebrity moments and internet pop-culture – including the infamous “LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!” video posted by Chris Crocker on YouTube as well as a mickey take bad mom of the year, head shaving Britney herself.

This movie has MANY annoying aspects the most obvious being its target audience appears to be 10-year-olds with ADHD and a below average IQ, this is made clear by abnormally annoying narration – when Ken Davintian aka the fat guy from Borat makes his flamboyant appearance we are told that this character looks like the fat guy from Borat.

The obvious gay jokes and poorly disguised innuendos get terribly boring after the first few scenes.

While we understand that the purpose (if you can call it that) of this film is to parady trashy pop-culture, the writers blatant theft  of gags and cheap laughs from other sources are unimaginative and dull.

Now after this rather critical review I’m sure some maybe more cautious before spending their few quid to see it, but if you are the type which enjoys a cheap laugh, it’s something to watch at your local cinema – but a definite must: STAY AT THE END! I know of countless people who walked out of pirates of the Caribbean who then missed that crucial minute at the end and this film is in the same.

The ending sketches after the 5 minutes or so of credits, are arguably the best part. We stayed just to be sure we didn’t miss anything, and I’m glad we did or I fear this review may have no positives, the final jumble of sketches thrown on at the end show some trashy pop-culture including the Cruise George Bush, Tom Cruise as well as others being thrown into the pit.

I am not a fan of this form of comedy as you can tell as I think that diluted down one liners should never have the millions spent and the feature length cinema time wasted on them – Personally I’m a fan f original interesting comedy which keeps you laughing every time, I will take a good stand up any day!
