Okay so i unfortunately missed a day i have been doing a lot and yet didn’t have much to talk about.
Saturday i had a bit of a lazy day, i woke up at 11… and got out of bed at 5pm! One of the reasons i love my laptop. I didn’t waste the day In that time i signed up a friend as a reseller, setup his domain, gave him a demo etc as well as looking into alternative sources for shoutcast for my clients.
Of course i eventually had to get up for dinner, and then shot off to the radio station to co-host the Johnny Robinson Show with Rich and of course Johnny.
Poor guy having it tough at the moment with some problems, nothing i can really do so keeping my nose out, just wish i could help :-/…
Today i have been refreshed of my pure contempt of 1and1, they truly are crap. I set 3 domains to transfer for a client, it SHOULD be almost instant… still waiting… and waiting… and you get the picture. I find it unbelievable that this company is still going, the poor quality of service and support is disgusting. It sounds silly but i really wish i had a vast amount of money to buy them out and save their poor clients from sub par service!
I have to admit, it is one of my biggest pet hates big companies which can easily afford to provide good service, but seem to choose not to.
I feel awful at the moment also as have a terrible cold, so i’m rather groggy, as have a nose which is running faster than Kelly Holmes, headache, backache and feverish :p YAY flu!
Also waiting for a server to finish setting up and installing everything so i can see if it would be suitable for my shoutcast clients, which i hope it is.
This will enable me to have a HUGE amount of control over the accounts on offer, and should mean i can go a good deal for current customers, and i hope even cut their price
(ain’t i a nice host – go me!)
Also rediscovered the spice girls today, someone i was chatting to was listening to it and i ended up looking up some of their tracks, and listening to an old now (thats what i call music) album on my pc, forgot some of the good tracks from the 90′s lol.
I also feel old. I remember a time before DVD… there’s a whole generation of kids who dont have that :/…
I have a exchange account from my college, unfortunatly they won’t allow external access using the Microsoft Outlook software (I of course set up my account so i can use MS Outlook inside college) so we are forced to use Micrsoft Outlook Web Access.
However i was unable to compose/reply to messages when using Outlook Web Access when using Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) and i got the familar MS Red “X” when i tried to create a new message.
This is not a problem in other browsers, such as IE6 or Google Chrome. The problem is due to security in IE7 where ActiveX and MIME is not accepted.
However this tutorial will quickly guide you through how this can be quickly solved.
1. Login to your Outlook Web Access account using Internet Explorer 7.
Click “Options” on the left pane.
2. Under “Email Security” you can see either Download or Upgrade the S/MIME Control.
Click this to download/update the controls used for the message body.
3. Click run when asked on both message boxes.
The S/MIME will then install.
4. Once the S/MIME has finished installing re-start Internet Explorer 7.
5. You should now find that new messages body is showing and displaying correctly, and you are now able to send email via Outlook Web Access!
Last night i quite literally discovered “The Kingdom” on my shelf, had no clue where it came from and thought i would give it a watch, I loved it.
The kingdom (2007) is a great action film where the main character Ronald Fleury (Jamie Foxx) and 3 other FBI agents played by Chris Cooper (Jarhead), Jennifer Garner (Daredevil) and Jason Bateman (Smokin’ Aces) fight to get boots on the ground and find out what really went on in the oil-company compound which put Saudi Arabia in the worlds press after a terrorist attack killed and wounded hundreds of innocent children and an FBI agent. Their mission is to find who did it, and bring them to justice.
While The Kingdom is not your stereotypical action film, it does still check all my boxes, lots of gun fire, big explosion, strong male leads, huge suspense in the first 2/3rds (acts) of the film and a dramatic breaking point when they thought they would get out easy but instead found themselves in the familiar high-speed car chase, sprinkled with intense shoot outs and awesome explosions. Not to mention the kidnapping which could lead to another beheading video on the Internet.
Note: It’s well worth checking out the bonus features on the DVD which shows how they filmed the car chases and explosions – Very interesting and almost as entertaining as the final product – for geeks like me anyway!
I find it facinating how societies and people communicate and function, and this film shows this well between the characters. Unlike some films and media representations this film did not shy away from criticizing both the Saudi Arabia and the USA, although admittedly the line “America’s not perfect; not at all. I’m the first to admit it” for me made it obvious that this was an intention and not something which naturally wrote itself into the script and the American heroes seem to get more glorification compared to their Saudi counterpart which played an equally exciting role in the final action.
Throughout the film the team are blocked and hindered in every way, in the beginning they are informed of the “rules”, they are only permitted to walk through the crime scene, they must not touch anything and under no circumstances are they to touch a dead Muslim – This make finger printing hard. It is clear the FBI are there for one purpose. Publicity. The Saudi Arabian princes are desperate for good publicity after the 9/11 bombings (when 15 out of 19 were Saudi Arabian), Fleury uses this to his advantage to get boots on the ground and later on when he is blunt and honest with the prince, allowing them to do what they came for, finding the baddy and bringing them to justice (which doesn’t mean jail… have you ever seen an action film where the bad guy lives?).
I won’t go into how this film is great in how it handles the politics and shows it all in a different light than most films/TV shows, like 24. Hopefully this review was interesting, and i didn’t give too much away for those who haven’t seen the film; hopefully i hope to write more reviews like this, well hopefully better, in future.
Watch it, if you like action films, you will love it.
Hmm okay, so i was saving up to get me an iPod Touch because they looked really cool and i liked the idea of having a nice handheld wifi device (i would use my twitter a lot more!) and I quite liked the idea of all the different apps, as well as having a better music player than my mobile. But now i am toren. I really want to get into doing YouTube and video, media and all that kind of stuff, at the moment the only kind of cam i have is the one built into my laptop, which when i first got it i thought yay great, but now i want something a little higher quality and would be much better to have something handheld as i could do a lot more different styles and shots etc with it.
Well, i was woken up today by my dad at 7am… Thanks Dad. ¬.¬ you know i don’t have to be at college until 1pm! Grr… So i got up nice and early, and got to see the untouched snow around my house, yay.
I did take some photos (i stuck my mobile out the window and took a few snaps) but they came out all red.
But then once i had woke up a bit and checked my emails scratched myself and turned on my pc i took a few more pics, which came out better, the sun was out.
The road out side house, with snow… and glare.
My Back Garden with snow!
Yea so there is a few pics of Swindon in snow, i was going to take more on the way to college etc, but by the time i got out and about it was all slushy and i didn’t really want to post pictures of icy mush.
I brought Alan Lastufka (of FiveAwesomeGuys & fallofautumdistro) and Micheal W. Dean’s book – YouTube: An Insider’s Guide To Climbing The Charts.
I haven’t yet finished reading it, I am just over a quarter way through it, but it is simply brilliant.
It isn’t how it sounds just a book about getting high on YouTube, it is SO much more, and the title really doesn’t give it justice.
Alan in particular describes many aspects of how to make good video, often to a cinematic level, however unlike most, it is broken down step by step and designed for noobs (me) and provides good alternatives for ALL types of users, from those using crappy web cams to those who can afford the high-tech high-res DV mini cams.
I can honestly say i am reading this cover to cover, and this will most probably be one of the best non-fiction books i have ever brought, and i am sure this will most definitely help and guide me to making better good videos for YouTube, and may just help me to create awesome videos for FiveAwesomeWebGeeks.
This does make me think though, why can’t they teach like this in college? When i started college i also started Media Studies, i attended 2 lessons, and decided it didn’t suit me.
This was mainly because of how it was taught, it seems your taught to pass the course, or how to do it this exact way, which shouldn’t be how media and creative subjects should be taught. For instance Alan describes different camera angles and styles and how to structure the story/video, just these few pages taught me more than the two lessons i did which was supposed to be teaching me just about camera angles and styles.
This book had really made me reconsider my view on getting into media and media production, and i think it could be for me if i can find the right way to learn and develop what i need to; I might have found the base or stepping stone with this book, and of course, YouTube.
I am rambling a little here, but i just wanted to quickly share this thought.
PS. Got rid of most of the Malware, was a pain but i think i got rid of it all
Edit:
Just thought i would add a comment about this. I LOVE the Internet.
This post has been online for around 4 hours (at time of editing) it is already on the second page of google for the title of the book (17th result) AND Alan has made a comment on my YouTube about it. I mean just WOW! lol. Thanks Alan
Edit 2: 7th Jan @ 00:37 it’s now 12th place on Google, haha onwards and upwards! first page soon!
Im subscribed to this guy, does some good songs… this is what he did if he got over 100 subscribers he got that and 2800 on top, with a little help from SXEPHIL.
