Domains, Sneezing, Shoutcast And Fever

Posted on January 11, 2009 by admin

Okay so i unfortunately missed a day i have been doing a lot and yet didn’t have much to talk about.

Saturday i had a bit of a lazy day, i woke up at 11… and got out of bed at 5pm! One of the reasons i love my laptop. I didn’t waste the day πŸ™‚ In that time i signed up a friend as a reseller, setup his domain, gave him a demo etc as well as looking into alternative sources for shoutcast for my clients.

Of course i eventually had to get up for dinner, and then shot off to the radio station to co-host the Johnny Robinson Show with Rich and of course Johnny.

Poor guy having it tough at the moment with some problems, nothing i can really do so keeping my nose out, just wish i could help :-/…

Today i have been refreshed of my pure contempt of 1and1, they truly are crap. I set 3 domains to transfer for a client, it SHOULD be almost instant… still waiting… and waiting… and you get the picture. I find it unbelievable that this company is still going, the poor quality of service and support is disgusting. It sounds silly but i really wish i had a vast amount of money to buy them out and save their poor clients from sub par service!

I have to admit, it is one of my biggest pet hates big companies which can easily afford to provide good service, but seem to choose not to.

I feel awful at the moment also as have a terrible cold, so i’m rather groggy, as have a nose which is running faster than Kelly Holmes, headache, backache and feverish :p YAY flu!

Also waiting for a server to finish setting up and installing everything so i can see if it would be suitable for my shoutcast clients, which i hope it is.

This will enable me to have a HUGE amount of control over the accounts on offer, and should mean i can go a good deal for current customers, and i hope even cut their price πŸ™‚

(ain’t i a nice host – go me!)

Also rediscovered the spice girls today, someone i was chatting to was listening to it and i ended up looking up some of their tracks, and listening to an old now (thats what i call music) album on my pc, forgot some of the good tracks from the 90’s lol.

I also feel old. I remember a time before DVD… there’s a whole generation of kids who dont have that :/…

Choosing a good web site provider and registrar is critical for a successful internet business.
I have come to the conclusion that I made the dreadful error of choosing a company because it had a 5 page ad in a popular computer magazine. I believe I have put my trust in a straw man. In my opinion 1and1, with CEO Oliver Mauss, is a horrible company and many customers have voiced a host of complaints on various blogs.
It should be a warning that when their phone is answered by a recording that tells you if you have gotten a notice from NCO, a collection agency, to press a certain number. If they are a reputable business, why do they have to send so many accounts to a collection agency?
Patrick Frey (Patterico) of the Los Angeles District Attorneys Office alleges his domain was high jacked and put up for auction on SEDO. SEDO is an associate company of 1and1.
Patterico: β€œI believe I’m facing massive incompetence, thievery, or very possibly a deliberate combination of the two. It feels like evil intent β€” but not for political reasons. It feels like cyber extortion β€” people going after the almighty dollar. Commenters have pointed out corporate ties between 1&1, which can’t seem to process my timely renewal, and Sedo/Domcollect, which stood to profit from 1&1’s failure. Usually, corporate incompetence does not earn the corporation money β€” but 1&1 and its related companies have found a way to make money off of their own slipshod procedures.”
Patterico was able to regain his domain.
Also Investigative journalist, Kelli Jack, has written 30 articles about this company and has a suit pending against them. Kelli alleges that 1and1 stole her domain name and sold it. Kelli states: “1and1 should be shut down.” As of today Kelli is working with the Pennsylvania Attorney General.
I have filed complaints with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Federal Trade Commission, Eastern Pennsylvania Better Business Bureau, ICANN, and others. I recommend everyone else having a problem consider doing the same.

The Washington DC, Pennsylvania Better Business Bureau has them listed as “Unsatisfactory” Read comments on the BBB why. Read some customer comments on Red Flag.

Thanks for the comment, very interesting hopefully someone or a group can take them down.

And update on the domains, it is obvious 1and1 dont like people moving domains away from them.

While most (reputable) hosts dont change nameservers when simply moving registrar for .uk domains so in theory there should be NO downtime what so ever when changing registrars of a .uk…

However 1and1 don’t do this! No, so as soon as the they FINALLY transfered the domain from “1und1” to my ISP tag, they deleted ALL NS records for the domains…

So the domain was transfered and working fine pointing to 1and1 ns servers… but no one was home.

Meaning the domains didnt work… so the clients business (which operates in 10’s of thousands and leads are totally web driven) was offline.

Thankfully the CEO with my registrar is a good chap who managed to get in and change the NS to my servers to avoid further downtime.

Point is it SHOULD have been fine to continue pointing to 1and1 and i should have been able to change the nameservers at my leisure.
